Regional Business Development Executive
Location: Home based within Scotland, Wales, or Northern England, with travel to customer sites within your region.
Hours: Flexible - full or part-time roles available.

Modern Democracy is looking for experienced elections professionals to fill several newly created Regional Business Development roles. This role is ideal for current or former Elections Managers, senior electoral professionals, or consultants who want to stay connected to the sector and help shape the future of elections in the UK.
About the Role
As a Regional Business Development Executive, you’ll act as a trusted advisor to councils and elections professionals across your region. Drawing on your experience and professional network, you’ll help councils understand the benefits of digital solutions, share insights and enable them to make confident, informed decisions.
What you will do
- Develop, manage, and maintain strong and effective working relationships with councils, elections teams, and key stakeholders across your region
- Represent Modern Democracy’s platforms, Modern Polling and Polling Station Inspector, as well as new products in development
- Identify new business opportunities
- Gather market intelligence and feedback
- Monitor legislative changes, operational challenges, and sector trends to support proactive engagement and product development
What you will bring
We’re looking for individuals who:
- Have extensive experience and knowledge of elections in the UK
- Understand the operational realities, challenges, and complexities of delivering elections within local government
- Are confident and comfortable engaging with Returning Officers, Deputy Returning Officers, Elections Managers, legislative bodies and stakeholder groups
- Are commercially aware, curious, and comfortable identifying opportunities
- Are professional, approachable, and credible, with the ability to build and maintain long-lasting effective working relationships
