Polling Perspectives May Edition

In this edition of Polling Perspectives we reflect on the insights shared by Becci Light, Electoral Services Manager at Cardiff Council.

Becci highlights how embracing technology at the poll station enables her team to focus on delivering more accessible and inclusive experiences for voters—without compromising on compliance or control.

Accessibility at elections

Digital Doesn’t Mean Exclusive — It Means Accessible and Inclusive

The Elections Act 2022 and Equality Act 2010 have raised the bar for accessibility in UK elections strengthened the duty on councils to ensure every voter can cast their ballot independently and in secret. However, when councils are reliant on paper-based systems, meeting these standards places additional pressure on polling station staff.

In our recent webinar, Becci Light, Electoral Services Manager for Cardiff Council, can prove that legislative compliant digital tools not only reduce administrative load but also free staff to assist voters more effectively.

"We can go forward in a digital format, but without excluding — keeping accessibility at its best."

May is always a defining moment in the electoral calendar, and this year was no exception. We supported over 1.3 million voters across 1,033 polling stations for 20 local authorities.

Behind the scenes, our support team worked for customers delivering Polling Station staff training, assisting with pre-poll checks, and remaining online until the final BPA was submitted.

Our dedicated experts care just as much as our customers do, treating every election day as an opportunity to review how our technology performs. We work closely with local authorities to implement improvements where they’re needed.

We are always looking to improve our customer experience after each election, and this year is no different.
